Memorial Day weekend

Over memorial day weekend we had 2 family reunions with our immediate families. We spent the first few days with our Moody Family, and ended the weekend with our Baadsgaard family. Even though Caleb was diagnosed with a bladder infection and pneumonia the day before, we made the executive decision to take him with us. It was important to us to be all together as a family and to let Caleb be with all of his cousins- some of whom he had never met!
It was a wonderful weekend! Caleb was happy and peaceful and loved being with his family. He didn't start feeling really agitated until several days later. We are so thankful for the time we were able to spend with our families and look forward to being together again!

Patriotic Program

Matthew's class performed a patriotic program last week! Matthew took the performance very seriously, he didn't do the "sub marine" once!

Wax Museum

Josh dressed up as Philo T. Farnsworth for the wax museum last week. As family members and students walked through the classroom museum, they pressed the buttons of the "wax" individuals in order to to make them come to life and tell more about their life!
Josh fit the part of a famous inventor and did a great job on his written report and speech.

"You probably know that Thomas Edison invented the light bulb; you also probably know that Alexander Graham Bell invented the phone. My name is Philo Farnsworth, and I invented TV.

When I was 11, I moved to my uncle’s farm. I loved to experiment on the generator. This usually ended in blown fuses. I once won first prize in an invention contest by entering a thief proof lock, I hate to brag, but my invention was FAR better than the others.

Once while plowing a potato field I saw the straight lines, and I thought that pictures could be broken into lines and shown so fast that the watcher would see the whole picture. I called it the image dissector at age 16 I drew a diagram of the image dissector and gave it to my chemistry teacher.

On September 7, 1927, The image dissector showed the first image, a line. My backers wanted to see dollars from the invention, so I showed a dollar bill. When I tried to use the TV, I blew out all the tubes in the set. I was discouraged, but found ways to solve the problems. And Eventually it worked.

I was thought some programs on TV were worthless and disappointing , but when I saw the first man on the moon, I knew that TV was awesome. I once said: “ The difficult we do at once, the impossible takes a little longer. ”

The Red Pyramid

This week it was Matthew's turn for a little surprise...
I checked him out from school during lunch to take him on a book adventure.
When Mitchell saw him walking down the school hallway,
he ran up to him yelling SURPRISE, SURPRISE!!

Matthew couldn't stop smiling. We went to Barnes and Noble, and I told him he could pick out any book he wanted. He's been wanting the Red Pyramid,(A new book by the author of the Percy Jackson series)and he was so excited to find it! He's especially happy that he has dibs and gets to read it before Josh.

We finished our outing by grabbing lunch then got Matthew back to school just in time. I know surprises like this are worth every penny, because the very next day Matthew was begging to go to the library. He wanted to check out a stack of books about ancient Egypt so he could use them for research while he reads his new book!

Pack night

Last night I did our last pack night in this ward. I've been the cub master for almost 2 years, and I just love the boys I've had the blessing to work with.
Last night as I ended our meeting, they all sang to me:

We love our Sister Moody
And isn't she great

She makes our pack meeting happy

and she's never late

You know we're gonna miss her

Cuz she loves us too!

Oh Sister Moody,
WE LOVE YOU TOO!

tender.

Congratulations to Josh for earning his Webelos badge!

Summer Reading!

If you're looking for some ways to keep your children reading this summer, here are a couple of ideas!

Barnes and Noble: Read 8 books, fill out the form then pick a free book from the store. I got my forms this week! They'll even let you do it twice!

Boarders: Read 10 books then pick a free one from the store. I just downloaded my forms online!

You have to pick a book from a selection the store has chosen, but I saw both lists and there are some great books to choose from!

Don't forget to sign up for your local libraries reading program! Our library gives great coupons each week that we use all summer long!

Happy Reading!

A Sunday afternoon

Just one of those Sunday afternoons that made me smile-
because I was surrounded by some pretty special boys.

Magic Hands

Mitchell thinks he has magic hands.
Whenever we go to the store- he runs up to the automatic doors, raises his hands above his head, and says
"Doors.... OPEN!"
And they DO!
The other day it was down pouring as we left Target.
Mitchell raised his hands and said
"rain.... STOP!"
But it didn't.
He sadly told me, "My magic hands aren't working any more!"
I love that I get to share my days with a 3 year old who finds magic wherever he goes!

Piano Partners

Mitchell is Josh's shadow. He adores him. Josh is so patient with him. He'll let him play Lego's with him, even though he breaks his creations. He'll play games with him even though Mitchell has his own set of rules. He'll even let him practice the piano with him, even though Mitchell likes to pound while he plays.

Treasures

I loved the handmade treasures my little boys made me for Mother's day!

Submarine

On Mother's Day, the primary children were asked to come onto the stage
for a special Mother's day musical number.
Matthew stood right next to the pulpit.
Front and center.
As he sang, he started smiling and slowly sank lower and lower and lower.
He continued singing while he then rose taller, taller and taller.
He continued the slow motion up and down for the duration of musical number.
When he came down he gave me a little elbow jab and said
"so, how'd you like my submarine?"

I love being the mother to boys that make me smile
every day.

Nick Names

We have a lot of nick names in our family.
I nick name the kids with ie's:
Joshie, Mattie, Mitchie, Bubbie (Caleb doesn't really work with ie attached)
I admittedly use fluffy nicknames like sweetie, buddy, winkie... you get the idea.
My hubby on the other hand is a nickname master.
He's given us all kind of crazy nick names.
Just to name a few:

Old timer Old Man
Shark Shark Bait Bait-er
Mo Lubbs Bubbs
one eyed bandit
"one
" Moses Match Squishy
Specs Ear wigs
Poopsie Lirpa,

Bet you can't tell which names belong to Caleb!

Me, I'd never think to use a name like
"The one eyed bandit" for Caleb.
I'd worry that it wasn't nearly sweet enough.
But then again, I'd also never think to tell the boys bed time stories that always end with Caleb, the one eyed bandit, saving his brothers by sending all of the bad guys to the city dump.

Our boys love it, and you know what, I think Caleb does too.

Incidentally, Matthew's newest nick name for Caleb is
"pillow" because he's so comfortable and squishy.
Now that's nick name that's right up my fluffy alley!

Two of you

"Mitchell came up to me the other day and stated,
"Look Mom! I can make two of you!"

Mitchell, I'll take two of YOU any day of the week!

I love you Mitchie Mo!

My New life

I've really enjoyed reading the Nie Nie dialogues blog over the past year or so. This video really touched me.

Hope of America

Last night Josh participated in the "Hope of America" program at BYU. It was an amazing performance! I felt so proud to be an American, and I felt so proud to be the mom to such an amazing young man.

*If you start at the bottom of the flag, Josh is the very first child in the second red stripe in the third section (on the right). The You-Tube video zooms right into his section a couple of times so you can see him in the left corner of the screen!
